'Bridgerton' Season 5 Might Come Sooner Than Expected

Dearest gentle readers... or viewers? Regardless, I come today bearing good news — not only do we now have Bridgerton Season 4 to enjoy, but we also received news that the series will return for yet another season. Two, in fact! Last March, Netflix announced that Seasons 5 and 6 of Bridgerton are forthcoming. And while patience is a virtue, well, we’re not always the most patient. Or virtuous. We’re gluttons for Regency-era romance, and we want more as soon as possible. So, the latest update to come out of the Bridgerton camp is especially exciting: Showrunner Jess Brownell would very much like to give the people (read: us) what they want.

In a recent exclusive interview with Bustle, Brownell teased a promising development regarding the Season 5 release date. Here’s what she had to say, along with all of the other details we have so far about the upcoming installments.

When will Bridgerton Season 5 release?

Last year, it seemed very likely that we wouldn’t see Bridgerton Season 5 this year or the next. Brownell had already explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the series has settled into a two-year pace between seasons. With Season 4 dropping in 2026, that placed us firmly in 2028 territory.

Suffice it to say, fans were not pleased at the idea of having to wait so long, as evidenced by comments left on the official Instagram renewal announcement:

“I’m gonna be 40 when this show ends 💀 I’m 29.”

“We cannot wait any longer! MAKE HASTE!!!”

“👀😑 at this point it’s whatever see you when I see you. I’ll still watch each old seasons because all were great.”

Happily, though, Season 4 arrived earlier than expected — and it would seem that Season 5 will, too.

“When I said the two-year time mark, I knew we were going to be a little bit quicker than that, but I was trying to under-promise and over-deliver. And instead, I think I just made everyone really upset. But we really have been endeavoring — from even before that point — to make everything quicker,” Brown told Bustle in late February. “I would say with Season 5, we’re on track ... to either meet or exceed the year-and-a-half timeline.”

Doing the math, that means it’s actually possible we could see the fifth season drop in 2027.

Who will Seasons 5 & 6 be about?

If you’re a fan of the Bridgerton series on Netflix, you probably know it’s based on author Julia Quinn’s romance series, which is obviously about the eight Bridgerton siblings — each book focusing on a different sibling. Netflix accordingly plans to give fans a full eight seasons of Bridgerton, meaning we’re halfway through once Season 4 lands.

So far, we’ve seen the love stories of eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) in Season 1, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) in Season 2, Colin (Luke Newton) in Season 3, and Season 4 focuses on bohemian brother Benedict (Luke Thompson).

That leaves Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilston), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) to fill out the remaining seasons. Brownell previously confirmed that the next two seasons would tell the stories of Eloise and Francesca.

Eloise’s book, To Sir Phillip, With Love, sees her unexpected romance play out with widower Phillip Crane. Francesca’s book, When He Was Wicked, follows her through grief after the sudden loss of her husband and then, after years of mourning, her subsequent connection with her husband’s cousin, Michael. Only, in the show, that character is a female cousin named Michaela. Yep, rumor has it Francesca’s season could be a queer love story!

There’s clearly lots to look forward to still in the Ton... but we’ll have to exercise plenty of patience. At least we have Season 4 to stream (and restream) to our heart’s content while we wait.
