This top-rated kids snorkel mask boosted my children’s swimming confidence

When we joined a pool last year, my kids were still working up the confidence and skill set to swim the length of the pool and back. They watched in awe as adult lap swimmers, equipped with fins and snorkel masks, glided effortlessly through the water and begged for their own set.

While researching options, I came across this Full-Face Snorkel Mask for Kids ($25.98, originally $34.99) and noticed that it had over 1,000 five-star reviews on Amazon. The unconventional design was unlike anything I’d seen before, but after skimming through one glowing review after another, I figured it was worth testing.

What sets this Full-Face Snorkel Mask for Kids apart

Unlike traditional kids snorkel masks that require wrapping your lips around a snorkel tube, remembering to breathe through your mouth, and blowing water out of the tube anytime water gets in, this full-face design streamlines the process. With this version, kids can breathe comfortably through their mouth or nose.

At first, the idea of having a full-face mask strapped to their heads made me anxious about water leaks, but the cleverly-designed breathing channels and tube design do a great job of keeping water out. For safety, there are separate channels for inhalation and expiration. Fresh air gets pulled into the middle of the snorkel mask and is inhaled through four valve films while CO2 is pushed out from two side channels. The masks are easy for my kids to pull off and they can also put them on by themselves.

The 180 degree panoramic full face design also provides a fuller field of vision. While we haven’t taken it on any snorkel excursions yet, the wider view and anti-fog coating on the lens are perfect for retrieving pool rings and small torpedos or just navigating a crowded pool. My kids have also used them in lakes and rivers.

This is the first time they used the masks in a swimming pool at the beginning of summer last year:

What to know before you buy this Full-Face Snorkel Mask for Kids

The snorkel mask doesn’t come with any cleaning instructions, but I rinse it off with fresh water when we get home and clean the silicone parts with soap and warm water. The most important thing is to let it air dry before you put it away to prevent mold. It comes with a mesh carrying case and the snorkel tube folds down, which makes it easier to fit in a suitcase or beach bag.

It also comes in all sorts of colors, from neon green to purple. The straps are adjustable and both my 6 and 9-year-old are able to wear them comfortably, but there are directions for how to measure your child’s face to ensure that the mask fits comfortably.

Would I buy this Full-Face Snorkel Mask for Kids again?

Absolutely. In fact, I just bought an extra one to have on hand for when they have pool play dates. Every single time my kids wear these, other children are drawn to the masks like magnets. If they’re swimming with friends, the snorkel masks are a high demand ticket and they usually take turns.

Aside from being fun, they’ve helped boost my kids’ swimming confidence. They’re able to swim laps now and can focus on practicing strokes without worrying about catching their breath. I love that they’re not timid about swimming alongside me in the deep end now, even without the mask.
